Drill Press Introduction

For any machinist or hobbyist manufacturer, getting the right tool is the most important part of any job. With so many choices, it’s hard to pick the right one without the proper research. Today we will give an introduction of drill presses from ALLWIN Power Tools.

What Is a Drill Press?
A drill press, like the ALLWIN DP8A, is an upright, fixed machine that travels on the z-axis to drill holes.

The bit is interchangeable so you can change the diameter of the holes to 13mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm, 25mm, 32mm, etc. It’s a hand-operated machine in which you can control how deep you plunge the hole by the depth adjustment system, and how much force you’re pushing down with. ALLWIN's drill presses also have the ability to change the rotating speed, we have drill presses with 5 speed, 12 speed or even variable speed.

In a drill press, the material sits under the head of the machine with a vise on top of its table. The operator can change the height of the table with the rack and pinion. To operate, a handle is cranked, moving the spinning bit straight down and cutting the material underneath.

Size and Accuracy
Drill presses can be made very small to be used in desktop applications. There are also floor drill presses that are much larger, please visit our on-line shop to see drill presses with floor stand.

Drill presses are the go-to tool when it comes to making quick holes. A machinist may elect to use a jig or fixture on a drill press, to allow them to more-consistently place similar materials for a repetitive job.
